Collection of the Artist
The Crown itself is inspired by the idea of “the modern frontlet.” I created this as a response to my thoughts around Indigenous interpretations of royalty and the need to hold up our emerging women leaders.
Mousewoman is known as the oracle, grandmother, and protector of youth. She is able to slip in and out of supernatural worlds and uses this skill to help young people who have gotten into trouble. In one Ts’msyen story she lifts up a corner of the ocean like a piece of fabric to enter an underwater world to save a young man’s life.
